Common Skincare Questions

1. What causes the Skin to age?

The top contributing factor to premature aging is sun exposure followed by other environmental factors and personal factors such as stress, smoking, lack of sleep, sickness, and hormones.

Signs of aging include wrinkles and fine lines, pigmentation, dullness, sagging skin, and loss of fullness and firmness in the skin. These are a result of reduction in collagen production, loss of elastin, and damaged melanocytes. These naturally occur when we age but can be exacerbated by the factors listed above.

2. Should I still use a moisturizer or hydration serum if I have oily skin?

Yes, every skin needs hydration to be healthy and balanced! Did you know that you can have oily AND dehydrated skin? A moisturizer replaces the water lost to the environment and forms a protective layer over your skin to prevent further water loss. Without proper moisture, the appearance and natural function of the skin is compromised.

Use a light product such as JYUNKA’s Extreme Hydrant Cream that deeply moisturizes and protects the skin without clogging pores. If you still find this moisturizer too heavy, use a serum such as the JYUNKA’s Extreme+ Hydrant Serum or Quad-Hydro Concentrate.

3. How can I brighten up my dull complexion for radiant skin?

For radiant and glowing skin, exfoliate your skin regularly and use products with Vitamin C. Try JYUNKA’s Epidermal Peel Kit, that not only effectively exfoliates the skin but also enhances product absorption, together with the M+ Fluid, that rejuvenates the skin.

Our body’s natural epidermal turnover and blood flow to our skin slows down when we reach 30 years old. This coupled with a hectic lifestyle, stress, and pollution can lead to dullness. In addition to the using skincare, make sure to drink lots of water and get sufficient sleep.

4. I have sensitive skin, can I use JYUNKA products?

Skin sensitivity may be a result of several factors such as stress, allergies, sun sensitivity, thinned skin from overuse of Retin A products or laser treatment, etc., and you may not have naturally sensitive skin. The right treatment and appropriate products to use depends on the cause of your skin sensitivity and we recommend visiting one of our boutiques for a personal consultation of your skin.

With sensitive skin, it is best not to overwhelm your skin with too many new products at once. Try JYUNKA’s JK Professional Quad-hydro Concentrate and JK Professional Pure E to deeply hydrate and calm the skin. For a calming cleanser, try JYUNKA’s 5-in-1 Gel Cleanser.

5. I work in an office or at home, do I still need to apply sunscreen?

Yes, you should wear UV protection even indoors and when you are driving. UVA and UVB rays can penetrate glass or car windows, reflect off water or shiny surfaces, and can cause harm to the skin even on a cloudy day. JYUNKA’s Ultra Defence SPF 50 will adequately shield and protect your skin and does not need to be reapplied as long as you don’t clean it off. It is specially formulated with nano-metals that will allow you to get full coverage with an extremely thin layer.

Sun exposure is the cause of several skin problems including aging, pigmentation, and dehydration. Make sure to us sunblock with sufficient coverage and protection to prevent aging and pigmentation.

6. How do I know which of the serum or serums is suitable for me?

The best way to know what skincare is appropriate for your unique skin needs is to have a personal consultation with a professional. Make an appointment at any of our Concept Centers for a free consultation today.

Alternatively, for a quick preliminary answer, find out your Jyunka Prescription with a short quiz.

7. When should I start using skincare? Am I too young?

You can start using skincare products from the age of 14 to 16 depending on your skin condition. Below the age of 12, the only skincare you need is a gentle cleanser and sun block. In your teenage years, depending on your skin condition you can start using a moisturizer or purifying products if you have acne or congested skin.

The products your skin needs will change with your age. Aging, which is the reduction of collagen and elastin production, begins between the ages of 25 and 30. Everyone’s skin is unique and to know what to use, make an appointment for a personal consultation at any of our Concept Centers or Boutiques.

8. What is the shelf life of JYUNKA products?

JYUNKA’s products have a shelf life of between 3 to 5 years from the date of production if sealed. Once opened, products must be finished within 6 to 12 months. To maintain the shelf-life of our products, please store the products in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight.

9. After a while, I noticed that my M+ Fluid is turning yellow, why is that? Is it still safe to use?

The M+ Fluid contains pure L’ascorbic acid, a derivative of Vitamin C. L’ascorbic oxidizes when it is contaminated or comes into contact with oxygen. This is exacerbated if kept in an environment above 30°C and in direct sunlight. To minimize oxidation, molecules of L’ascorbic acid in the M+ Fluid are encapsulated in spheres of lipohilic ingredients that protect it from the environment. However, as you use the product and some of the spheres will inevitably break and as it comes into contact with the air, the L’ascorbic within will start to oxidise. Thus, you will notice the serum turning from clear to a yellowish color.

You can continue to use the M+ Fluid if it is a light yellow colour. Stop using immediately if the M+ Fluid turns a dark yellow or yellow-brown colour. This is an indication that the M+ Fluid is no longer effective and can even start to darken your skin.

For best results, store the M+ Fluid in a cool place out of direct sunlight, keep the bottle closed after use, and finish using the product within 3 months of opening. You may also store the M+ Fluid in the fridge (but not the freezer).

10. Why does my M+ Fluid feel oily?

The molecules of L’ascorbic acid in the M+ Fluid are encapsulated in spheres of lipohilic ingredients using QuSome technology. The lipophilic layers are oil soluble and allows the hydrophilic Vitamin C to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and renew your skin from within. As you use the M+ Fluid, some of the spheres break and the lipophilic ingredients are released into the product. This is why your M+ Fluid may feel “oily” to the touch.

But don’t worry! These ingredients are not made from oils and the molecules are so fine that they absorb you’re your skin immediately and will not make you feel greasy. More importantly, none of these ingredients increase sebum production and will not cause your skin to become oilier.

11. There is no foam when I use the 5-in-1 cleanser, is it normal?

JYUNKA’s 5-in-1 Gel Cleanser is a gel-based cleanser and is not meant to foam up like other soap cleansers. It is specially formulated to not only deeply cleanse your skin but to also moisturize and balance the PH of your skin. Just pump 2-3 pumps of the Cleanser on dry hands and massage on your face and neck. Rinse with water.

12. If I use the M+ Fluid and other serum, can I skip the cream?

We wouldn’t advise it. A cream is needed to seal in the serums, protect the skin from moisture loss and other environmental pollutants, and soften the texture of the skin.

The M+ Fluid and other JYUNKA serums contain high concentration of active ingredients and are formulated to penetrate the skin. Hence, they do not remain on the surface of the skin to protect it from the environment. In addition, pairing the right creams with the corresponding serums can significantly boost the penetration and effectiveness of the products.

13. My skin feels itchy with prickling sensation when I apply the Epidermal Peek Cream. Is this normal?

The Epidermal Peel Cream is a chemical exfoliant that contains AHA and Salicylic acid to dissolve dead skin cells. This process renews the skin and leaves your skin radiant and baby soft and it is normal to feel some itchiness and prickling when the cream has been applied.

However, make sure to follow the instructions of the Epidermal Peel Kit strictly. Do not leave the Epidermal Peel Cream on for more than 3 to 5 minutes. Use the Epidermal Lotion liberally to neutralize the cream completely. You should not feel any more itchiness or prickling sensation when you have completely neutralized your skin. Do not use the Epidermal Peel Kit more than 2 times a week.

If you experience pain or significant discomfort, neutralize the cream immediately with Epidermal Lotion and consult with your therapist.
